Like any American, President Obama relaxes in his hometown for the holidays. However, while most are trudging through snow this holiday season, Obama is relaxing on the sunny shores of Hawaii.
President Obama has had a trying year to say the least. From the hiccups of implementing Obamacare to a Republican takeover of Congress, the president has earned a vacation. So this holiday season, Obama has returned to his native Oahu, Hawaii to unwind.
The Obama family spends the holidays in an upscale beach home in Oahu. The lavish $3,500 a day rental house overlooks a private beach.
The Obamas also enjoy the private beaches at Bellows Air Force Station in Waimanalo, Hawaii. The Obamas also make sure to visit troops in Hawaii to thank them for their service.
President Obama pays homage to his late veteran grandfather in Hawaii as well. He visits the grave of his mother’s father, Stanley Dunham. The World War II veteran is buried in the Punchbowl Cemetery.
President Obama also takes time out for family by visiting his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng,who still lives in Hawaii. The Obamas also hike, swim, and snorkel around the island.
On vacation, Obama also takes time out to golf with friends at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course at the Marine Corps Base. He and First Lady Michelle Obama also work out at the gym at the marine base.
After an intense golf game and workout, the president likes to reward himself with shave ice, a Hawaiian snow cone. The president even has one named after him, ” the Snowbama”, with cherry, passion-guava, and lemon-lime. All these amenities and family connections are surely why the Obamas return to Hawaii every year for the holidays.
