WASHINGTON D.C. — Felix Sater, a former business associate of President Trump, boasted in 2015 to the president's lawyer, Michael Cohen, that he could pull off a real estate deal in Russia that would deliver the presidency to Trump, according to a report by The New York Times.

"Michael I arranged for Ivanka to sit in Putins private chair at his desk an office in the Kremlin. I will get Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected," Sater wrote in an email. "We both know now one else knows how to pull this off without stupidity or greed getting in the way. I know how to play it and we will get this done. Buddy our boy can become President of the USA and we can engineer it."

The project fizzled when it failed to get government permits or financing.

"To be clear, the Trump Organization has never has any real estate holdings or interests in Russia," said the Trump Organization on Monday, in a statement.

At the time of the emails, Sater worked for the Trump Organization as a broker paid to deliver real estate deals. His comment about Trump's daughter, Ivanka, sitting in Putin's private chair refers to a 2006 trip to Moscow and seems designed to show how he influential was at the Kremlin.

Michael Cohen suggested Monday that Saber's proposal was just "salesmanship" and said he ultimately decided it was not workable, never agreeing to travel to Russia.

The Sater emails, some of which were obtained by the Times, were turned over Monday to the House Intelligence Committee, which is looking into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

The emails obtained by the Times do not include any responses from Cohen to Sater.
