WASHINGTON D.C. — US reality star Caitlyn Jenner says she is considering joining politics in her country, to promote transgender issues.

Speaking to the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme, Jenner said she had been "really upset" by some of US President Donald Trump's policies on the LGBT community.

Jenner, who changed her name and transitioned to living as a woman aged 65, claimed that Trump was being influenced by the people around him.

A Republican support who got behind Trump's presidential campaign last year, Jenner expressed her disappointment after the new president's decision to overturn a guidance allowing transgender students to use school toilets matching their gender identity.

"It doesn't make me regret my vote yet, but it is very disappointing, and I have been very verbal about that," she said.

She added that she thought Trump would be better on LGBT issues. Asked why she believed that, Jenner replied it was because she had talked to Trump, adding that she will have more conversations with Trump about the issue in the future.

Jenner told the programme that she was now considering getting into politics to promote LGBT issues, adding that she does a lot of political stuff, but it is mostly behind the scenes.

Jenner also talked about how some of her ten children and step-children have grown closer to her since transitioning, while others have become distant.

She said that some of her children were mourning the "loss of Bruce," her name before transitioning.

But the political activist added that step-daughter Kim Kardashian had been "wonderful" about the issue.

The ex-Olympic athlete also revealed her life was "much simpler" now she was living more openly as a woman.
