Los Angeles judge quickly stamps out popular marijuana delivery app

A medical marijuana delivery app in Los Angeles was shut down after a judge granted an injunction against the company.

While medical marijuana is legal in California, a medical pot delivery app has been ruled illegal. A judge recently halted Nestdrop’s delivery service.

Nestdrop is a smartphone-based service that arranges deliveries of medical marijuana to patients. The service was halted after Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer filed an injunction to suspend the service.

Feuer said that Nestdrop’s pot delivery service violates Prop D, a measure approved by measures. Prop D regulates medical marijuana dispensaries and outlaws medical marijuana delivery services in Los Angeles. The proposition also only lets the caretakers of medical marijuana patients pick up the pot from dispensaries.

“This app is a flagrant attempt to circumvent the will of the voters who passed Prop D and we are pleased the court ordered Nestdrop to stop facilitating medical marijuana delivery,” said Feuer.

Nestdrop contends that the service is legal and doesn’t directly sell marijuana to patients. The company argues that it just directs medical marijuana patients to dispensaries.

Nestdrop issued a statement from founder Michael Pycher disagreeing with the judge’s ruling.

“While we agree with certain aspects of Proposition D, we believe the prohibition on delivery services is unnecessary and enforcement is a misuse of taxpayer funds. In fact, delivery services minimize the need for storefront dispensaries in residential areas – a point of issue in Proposition D – as these services bring the medicine directly to patients, no matter the location.” said Pycher in his statement.

“The patients who need medical cannabis the most are the ones who might not be able to drive and therefore need it brought to them, and we can help them with that,” stated Pycher.
