Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) broke with the rest of the GOP on Thursday with a vote against the Senate GOP's budget proposalhe was the only Republican to vote no on the measure. But the Kentucky Republican assured Trump via Twitter on Friday that he will stand with Republicans on Trump's plan to cut taxes.

"I'm all in for tax cuts @realDonaldTrump. The biggest, boldest cuts possible - and soon!" Paul tweeted.

Trump is proposing "the biggest tax cut in history," although neither he nor Senate Republicans have set the specifics in writing. It is expected to reduce the number of tax brackets, eliminate some deductions that benefit middle-class and lower-income taxpayers, and add $1.5 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade.

Paul has previously insisted that spending cuts must accompany any tax cut so that the deficits do not increase. He voted against the budget proposal this week because it does not reduce spending and therefore puts the government further in the red. The measure passed anyway by 51-49 Thursday night.

The budget's passage will allow the GOP to take up the challenge of pushing Trump's tax cut plan through Congress. Procedural technicalities preclude Democrats from blocking it with a filibuster, so the GOP will be able to pass it with as few as 50 votes.

Thursday's vote was one of several key votes this year in which Paul broke with his party and Trump. He was one of the only Republicans to consistently vote against the Republican proposals to repeal Obamacare and enact a Republican alternative.
