In a statement released Monday, the Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin will raise the issue of two diplomatic compounds seized by the U.S. when he meets with President Trump for the first time later this week in Hamburg, Germany, at the G-20 summit.

The statement described the seizure as an "irritant" in relations between the U.S. and Russia and said Putin is expected to urge a "most rapid solution," according to a report by ABC News.

Former President Barack Obama confiscated the two Russian compounds located in Maryland and the state of New York in December 2016. The confiscations, along with the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, were in retaliation for Moscow's alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The Kremlin also listed a number of issues about which Russia and the U.S. could cooperate, including nuclear arms control, problems with Syria, Israeli-Palestinian relations, and international terrorism.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned Friday that failure to normalize relations would be a "huge mistake."

President Trump has not identified any specific issues to bring up with Putin.

"There's no specific agenda," said national security advisor Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, in the ABC News report. "It's really going to be whatever the president wants to talk about."

In light of clashes with Moscow over Syria, the Crimea, and the ongoing investigations into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, some political pundits are not optimistic that the G-20 meeting will produce much progress.

"I don't think we should expect any kind of a breakthrough," said political analyst Maria Lipman, who is stationed in Moscow. "I don't think we should expect any significant results from this meeting. Not even the beginning of solutions to the major issues."
