Can America stomach another Bush in the White House?
Citing New York businessman John Catsimatidis, who attended a closed-door fundraiser for New York Catholic schools in which Bush spoke, CBS News reports that former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is “digesting” the idea of running for the nation’s top political office in 2016.
While the nation considers whether another Bush in the White House would be a good idea, there’s one person who has already made up her mind. Nearly a year ago, former First Lady Barbara Bush told the “Today” show that after having a son and a husband in the White House, she couldn’t stomach the idea of seeing another family member run for president.
“There are other people out there that are very qualified, and we’ve had enough Bushes,” Bush told Matt Lauer.
Bush may not run for president because of the simple fact that the private sector has become too lucrative for him. According to a report from The New York Times, Bush hauls in more than $50,000 for his speeches and he’s been paid millions in board fees.
“Although he’s been at this for seven years, it’s the last few years that he’s begun to flourish as an investor and build a commendable nest egg,” Al Cardenas, a longtime friend and adviser, told the newspaper. “Leaving all of that behind, all he’s built, is a challenge and a sacrifice for him.”
